WILLEMSTAD - Human Rights Defense Curaçao (HRDC), on Human Rights Day, once again drew attention to the thousands of workers who are still in Curaçao without a legal residence and work permit. On December 10, the United Nations (UN), international and local human rights organizations reflected on their work, success and problem situations that are taking place worldwide.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted on December 10, 1948. This happened during a UN General Assembly. The statement was written in more than 500 languages, making it the most translated document in the world. The theme of this year's Human Rights Day was Dignity, Freedom and Justice for All.
HRDC's mission is to play an independent, non-governmental role in the protection and defense of the universal human rights and freedoms of the people of Curaçao. The organization wants to find solutions for deep-rooted forms of discrimination and exclusion due to nationality, gender or sexual orientation, against refugees, crisis migrants or undocumented migrants. In the past three years, the organization has created a recognizable place in Curaçao society.
