Aruba’s Border with Venezuela to Remain Closed Until April 23, 2025

ORANJESTAD - The border between Aruba and Venezuela has been closed since 2019, following a unilateral decision by the Venezuelan government. In mid-2023, the maritime border was reopened based on negotiations between authorities from Aruba and Venezuela.

Internal discussions have been ongoing for some time to prepare for the reopening of the aerial border. These efforts aim to ensure a safe and responsible resumption of flights and other air traffic between the two countries.

However, a new diplomatic impasse has emerged regarding the recognition of Nicolás Maduro as Venezuela's president. The Dutch Kingdom, as part of the European Union, does not recognize Maduro’s re-election victory, citing a lack of transparency. Meanwhile, Venezuela’s opposition has presented evidence suggesting their candidate, Edmundo González, was the true winner of the July election.

Due to these developments, the closure of the border with Venezuela has been extended for a maximum of four months, until April 23, 2025.
