ORANJESTAD - A week after the United Nations announced its intention to conduct further studies for a ferry connection between Caribbean islands, the government of Aruba also comes up with plans for a ferry service.
It should connect Aruba and Curaçao with each other. Research must show whether this is economically feasible and under what circumstances and conditions.
It is not the first time that a government has made an announcement to connect the two islands via a boat service. Until now it has always remained with announcements.
Ton Jansen, a maritime expert on ferries in the Caribbean, will lead the investigation. He was also at the basis of the current ferry services between Sint Maarten, Saba and Sint Eustatius.
