Aruba extends closure of aviation borders with Venezuela until April 21

Local | By Correspondent January 22, 2024

ORANJESTAD - Despite Curaçao's resumption of air connections with Venezuela for over nine months, Aruba remains cautious about taking a similar step. Today, it was revealed that Aruba has once again prolonged the closure of its airspace with Venezuela for an additional three months, now extending until April 21. This decision encompasses both general aviation and commercial aviation, affecting passengers, cargo, and mail.

Prime Minister Evelyn Wever Croes of Aruba recently conveyed the potential for considering the reopening of borders, but with a specific focus on air cargo. Such a move would require close collaboration with Venezuela, mirroring the current arrangement with the maritime border. While the maritime border has been reopened recently, it is exclusively for cargo, particularly commodities like fruits and vegetables.
