WILLEMSTAD - A painting by artist Merly Trappenberg was stolen from the Sambil shopping center last Wednesday. That was announced Monday via a press release.

The artist discovered the theft together with a customer on Friday when she saw that the artwork was missing. She immediately alerted the security of the shopping center. Trappenberg has seen through camera images that the painting was stolen by three men around 6 pm. The images show that it is probably tourists. The thieves took the work, called 'Girl', in a pickup truck.
The artist has had an art gallery in Sambil for seven years where she exhibits her work. Some of the paintings from her collection temporarily hung in the corridor of the shopping center, where the stolen painting also hung. An Afro-Caribbean woman with a headscarf is painted on the canvas. The portrait is painted on wood and has a wooden frame. A report has been made to the police who are investigating the matter.
