WILLEMSTAD - The man who was involved in the robbery of a work of art from Sambil and who did not return his rental car on time was arrested yesterday. The art robber was recognized at Hato airport by an observant woman.
The rental car has been seized for investigation. Merly Trappenberg's artwork was not among his luggage. The artist hopes that she will get the painting back and that it will be in good condition.
Camera images from the Sambil shopping center show how earlier this month three men walked with the artwork to the parking lot, where they get into a Volkswagen Amarok. The pick-up is equipped with stickers from the rental company Heerlijk Curaçao. However, the renters have never returned the car after the agreed rental period. The contract was in the name of an artist living in Geleen, Limburg.
