WILLEMSTAD – Yesterday morning, four active Coast Guard employees and one former Coast Guard employee were arrested as part of the JAQUE, BOREALIS, and KAUS investigations. Following the arrests, six home searches were conducted by the examining magistrate.
The JAQUE investigation focuses on Coast Guard personnel suspected of aiding third parties in the importation of narcotics, an offense punishable under the provisions of the 1960 Opium Ordinance, as amended. The investigation revealed that GPS devices were allegedly secretly placed on Coast Guard vessels, likely by Coast Guard employees. These devices enabled criminals to monitor the movements of Coast Guard vessels in real time.
The BOREALIS and KAUS investigations center on SKY data from Coast Guard personnel suspected of assisting third parties with drug importation.
It cannot be ruled out that further arrests may occur in connection with these cases.
