WILLEMSTAD – From May 18 to 21, utility executives and leaders from across the Caribbean and beyond have gathered in Curaçao for the CARILEC 2025 Conference. CARILEC, the Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation, organizes annual conferences, seminars, webinars, training sessions, and networking opportunities to consistently enhance knowledge sharing and communication among its members. Each year, a member country hosts different events, and this year it is Curaçao's turn to organize the General Managers and Finance Directors Conference.
During this key regional gathering, leadership teams, executives, energy managers, and innovators from various Caribbean and regional countries are convening in Curaçao to deliberate and explore strategies for transforming the energy sector across the region. The central theme of this year’s conference is “Watt’s Next in Leadership: Navigating Uncharted Territories.”
In her welcome speech, Neysa Isenia, Aqualectra’s Chief Financial Officer and Acting Managing Director, emphasized the evolving demands on leadership. “We live in a time where leadership requires more than just vision and expertise,” she stated. “It requires courage, clarity, consciousness, and most importantly, connection.” She added that this conference offers the perfect moment to explore these topics together.
To officially open the conference, demissionary Minister of Economic Development Ing. Charles Cooper remarked, “The energy sector in the Caribbean stands at a crossroads — facing global transformation and seeking ways to stay empowered to lead it. This conference is not just a series of sessions; it is a space for vision, collaboration, and action.”
The keynote speaker for this year’s opening was Ginny Clarke, a globally recognized expert in conscious leadership. Formerly an executive recruiter at Google and consultant to Fortune 500 companies, Clarke reminded attending executives that they are ultimately responsible for the development of their employees — not just the HR department.
As part of the conference agenda, participants will also visit key infrastructure sites such as Aqualectra’s control center, the wind turbines at Koraal Tabak, and the energy storage battery park, offering firsthand insights into Curaçao’s renewable energy initiatives.
The CARILEC 2025 conference underscores Curaçao’s growing role in the regional energy dialogue and its commitment to sustainable, forward-looking leadership.
