WILLEMSTAD - According to the utility company Aqualectra, the power outage on Monday took much longer than expected due to a series of setbacks.

It is also not due to a shortage of capacity, but due to a fire at Curacao Refinery Utilities, which is connected to the Aqualectra network. The fire caused a short circuit, causing the production of all Aqualectra units to fail.

Aqualectra kept the population informed of the repair work through press releases and there were several apologies made to the population.
