Aqualectra innovative with carnival 2023

Local | By Correspondent February 17, 2023

WILLEMSTAD – Utility company Aqualectra is introducing smart and modern solutions during Carnival this year. For example, a smart prepaid meter system will be used for the connection of water and electricity on the carnival route.

It is a pre-paid system for advanced smart metering infrastructure, which serves as a pilot project before the system is rolled out throughout Curaçao.

Unlike the conventional Pagatinu, this system is connected via smart meters. With this system, both water and electricity can be purchased

In addition, the Pre-Paid system works with a digital wallet that the customer can use to buy credit to use electricity and water.

Through an online portal, the customer can check the amount he has on his digital wallet, view his daily consumption, the average amount of water and electricity that he can use with the amount available in his digital wallet, and all other activities related to manage its consumption. A completely different experience for prepaid services that offer new benefits for the customer.

Street lighting

Last year, Aqualectra started the process of installing smart LED street lighting in Curaçao. The smart LED street lighting has already been installed on Schottegatweg, the Juliana bridge and the city center, among others.

In recent weeks, Aqualectra, together with the Department of Public Works and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, has installed 376 smart LED streetlights along the carnival route, both on the route to Rooseveltweg and on the Banda Bou route, known as Kaminda Próspero ‘Popo’ Rojer.
