WILLEMSTAD - Water and electricity company Aqualectra has halted the public tender for acquiring additional temporary power capacity. This decision was confirmed by Neysa Schoop-Isenia, the financial director of Aqualectra. Despite significant interest, the company has decided to terminate the tender process.
The search for extra temporary capacity was driven by Aqualectra's desire to be well-prepared for increasing demand due to economic growth and climatic changes.
In parallel with the now-cancelled public tender, Aqualectra has initiated discussions with the Curaçao Refinery (RdK) regarding the use of gas turbines managed by Curaçao Refinery Utilities (CRU).
These turbines represent capacity that is already available on Curaçao. According to Schoop-Isenia, discussions with RdK are ongoing, but she cannot yet provide an indication of the outcome.
In the March announcement, Aqualectra invited interested parties to submit bids for the supply of temporary capacity ranging from 10 to 40 megawatts for a maximum period of two years.
