Aqualectra continues dismantling of old water plant

WILLEMSTAD - Aqualectra has again started this month at full speed with preparations for continuing the final phase of the dismantling of the water plant at Mundu Nobo.

The demolition work is expected to take another 20 to 24 months, said Darick Jonis, director of Aqualectra.

“For the sake of prioritization, the dismanteling process has been delayed.” The demolition work at Mundo Nobo was started in August 2015. Initially two years were reserved for the demolition of the plant and the cleaning of the site by Miles Trucking & Heavy Equipment Services.

Up to now, around 40 percent of the total has been dismantled. The other 60 percent of the Mundu Nobo plant still needs to be demolished. “It concerns various units that have deliberately survived until the final phase,” explains Jonis. The remaining 60 percent consists of a few fuel tanks, water storage tanks, pipes and filters, pumps and pump houses, transformer stations, boilers, steam generators and office buildings.
