Appraisal days at University of Curaçao

Local | By Correspondent January 18, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - The University of Curaçao (UoC) organizes valuation walk-in days. People who own old and rare publications can have their property appraised by a reputable appraiser.

People can have old documents appraised in the library of the UoC on Friday from 13:00 to 15:30 and Saturday from 10:00 to 13:00. The documents will be appraised by appraiser of old publications Arie Molendijk

“In order to safeguard our cultural heritage, it is important that those who own old and rare publications are aware of their value,” said the university.

In addition, the value of the documents is important because of the investment in conservation measures, possible restoration and for insurance purposes. The valuation mainly focuses on books from before 1900 such as bibles, atlases, illustrated works and travel books. The university is also interested in manuscripts, letters, photographs, postcards and prints. The university says that the valuations are only possible on the mentioned days. The costs of the appraisal are five guilders for one to about ten books or serial works. A home visit can quickly amount to fifty guilders.
