Appeal to transport companies to avoid heavy vehicle traffic on Queen Juliana Bridge

Local | By Press release August 15, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The Public Works Service (OW) informs the community that it has recently observed an increase in heavy vehicle traffic on the Queen Juliana Bridge.

This bridge was designed 50 years ago to support vehicles with a maximum weight of 45 tons, including the weight of the vehicle and its cargo. Consistently exceeding these limits could cause damage to critical parts of the bridge's structure and asphalt layer. This, in turn, could eventually mean that the bridge, a vital infrastructure for our island with significant economic value, would need to be closed for maintenance.

To prevent such consequences, OW is appealing to contractors and transport companies to avoid crossing the bridge with heavy loads. It is recommended to use the alternative route around Schottegat for this type of transport.

OW, in collaboration with the Traffic Police, will intensify inspections on the bridge and will take strict measures to maintain the safety and integrity of the bridge.
