THE HAGUE – Anouschka Biekman (D66) has been appointed as the new chair of the Dutch House of Representatives committee for Kingdom Relations, following a unanimous decision during the committee’s constitutive meeting.

Biekman, 45, has been a member of the Dutch Parliament since November 12. Prior to her national role, she served as a municipal council member and alderman in Schiedam.

Her involvement with Caribbean affairs within the Kingdom has already been evident in parliamentary debates, including discussions on the Social Affairs and Employment budget, where she highlighted concerns about social security and living conditions in the Caribbean Netherlands.

Outgoing interim chair Songül Mutluer (GroenLinks-PvdA) congratulated Biekman during the handover, describing the committee as “the most fantastic committee.” Mutluer was subsequently elected as vice-chair, also with unanimous support.

The committee for Kingdom Relations plays a key role in overseeing matters involving Curaçao, Aruba, Sint Maarten, and the BES islands, making Biekman’s appointment relevant for ongoing discussions about governance, economic development, and cooperation within the Kingdom.
