WILLEMSTAD - Stichting DOG, Curaçao’s prominent animal welfare organization, expressed confusion following a press release from Minister of Health, Environment, and Nature (GMN), Javier Silvania (MFK), announcing the foundation’s relocation to a new site.
According to Stichting DOG, they were unaware of any such plans and were surprised to learn about the relocation through the media. "It's peculiar that such critical information is disclosed publicly without prior consultation with us," said Djoeke Giliam, chairperson of Stichting DOG.
Lack of Communication
In the press release, Minister Silvania cited noise complaints, particularly persistent barking from the dogs, as the primary reason for the proposed relocation. Giliam, however, highlighted the lack of direct communication, stating, "It’s troubling that we have to hear about such significant decisions through the media instead of being informed beforehand. We would appreciate a discussion before announcements like these are made."
Next Steps for Stichting DOG
Giliam revealed that the foundation's board would convene a meeting to determine their response to the relocation proposal. However, no date has been set for the meeting, leaving the matter unresolved for now.
The incident underscores the importance of open dialogue between government authorities and organizations to avoid miscommunication and foster collaborative solutions.
