Andrelton Simmons Leads Historic Win for Dorados de Chihuahua with Five Hits

CHIHUAHUA Curaçaoan baseball star Andrelton Simmons played a pivotal role this week in a historic victory for the Dorados de Chihuahua, contributing five hits in a stunning 25-6 rout over the Algodoneros de Unión Laguna. The explosive performance helped the team match a nearly 63-year-old record in the Mexican Baseball League.

The Dorados racked up a total of 33 hits over nine innings — a feat last achieved by the Sultanes de Monterrey in 1962. Simmons, a former Major League infielder known for his time with the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Angels, showcased his elite skills with a series of powerful hits that fueled the team's unprecedented scoring output.

Alongside Simmons, Matt McDermott also notched five hits, while Alex Mejía and Rusber Estrada made significant contributions, combining to drive in ten runs. However, it was Simmons who set the tone from his position in the infield with sharp hitting, alert baserunning, and strong defensive plays.

The victory marked a breakthrough for the Dorados after five consecutive losses and signaled a fresh start under new manager Gerónimo Gil. The game also highlighted the critical value of veteran leadership in a league where mental toughness and experience often make the difference.

Held at the Estadio Monumental in Chihuahua, the game will go down as one of the most prolific nights in the history of the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol. For Simmons, who represented Curaçao in the 2024 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, it’s another moment of international acclaim in a distinguished career.
