Local | By Press release April 28, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - At the request of the Minister of Justice, Mr. Shalten Hato, the Council of Ministers has agreed to appoint Mr. Andre Gosselaar as a notary. Mr. Gosselaar is a young man who was born and raised in Curaçao. He has extensive experience in notarial law, having served as a notary candidate (kandidaat-notaris) and currently holding the position of substitute notary.

The process of appointing a notary is the responsibility of the Minister of Justice. The process involves interested parties submitting applications, after which the President of the Common Court of Justice is responsible for managing the application process and listening to interested parties. The President of the Common Court of Justice then makes a proposal to the Minister of Justice, indicating which candidates are considered best equipped to fill the current position(s).

Based on the law, the Minister of Justice receives a proposal that includes a maximum of three (3) potential candidates from which the Minister can choose. The proposal is not final, as the Minister has some freedom to make the decision that he or she considers best and bears governmental responsibility for this decision.

Recently, there was a vacant position for a notary in Curaçao. In this context, the Minister of Justice proposed to the Council of Ministers to appoint Mr. Andre Gosselaar as a notary to fill this vacancy.
