Amnesty International holds talks with Curaçao parliament on refugee situation

Local | By Correspondent September 21, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - The Standing Committee on Justice of the Parliament of Curaçao held discussions yesterday with a delegation from Amnesty International. The discussion focused on the situation of refugees on the island, and both parties exchanged ideas on how to better safeguard the human rights of these refugees.

As previously reported, on February 7th of this year, Amnesty International published a progress report on Curaçao titled "Little Progress in the Protection of Venezuelans." The human rights organization is currently on a working visit this week to monitor the situation on the island, and it also visited Aruba.

Amnesty took the initiative to engage in discussions with the Parliament to gain a better understanding of the parliamentarians' stance on this issue. The dialogue represents an important step in the discussion regarding the protection of refugees and ensuring their human rights in Curaçao.
