American visitor falls ill in waters off Lions Dive

Local | By Correspondent March 15, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - An American tourist fell seriously ill this morning while swimming at Lions Dive. According to reports, the man accidentally ingested a considerable amount of water, prompting emergency responders to rush to his aid. Fortunately, ambulance personnel were able to resuscitate him at the scene before transporting him to the hospital for further treatment.

This incident adds to a series of water-related emergencies involving tourists on the island this year. Tragically, on Sunday, March 3rd, another American tourist lost their life after encountering difficulties while swimming at Baya Beach.

In a separate incident on February 15th, a vacationer who went swimming at Porto Marie went missing and has not been found since. Similarly, in mid-January, an American visitor passed away while swimming at Klein Curaçao.

Authorities are urging visitors to exercise caution when swimming in unfamiliar waters and to adhere to safety guidelines to prevent further tragedies.
