WILLEMSTAD - The American ship, The USS New York (LPD 21), visited Curaçao and was moored at the Mega Pier. The ship is special because it is made with historic steel, as reported by the American Consulate.
The USS New York was built with steel from the World Trade Center in New York. On September 11, 2001, terrorists attacked the World Trade Center and destroyed it, resulting in the loss of thousands of lives.
In commemoration of all those who lost their lives on 9/11, America used steel from the World Trade Center building to construct the new ship. The ship's motto is "Never Forget." In total, 7,500 kilograms of steel from the WTC in New York were used.
The American Consul, Margaret Bond, visited The USS New York and thanked the ship's crew for their visit and their work.
