WILLEMSTAD – A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday, February 11, when a 73-year-old American tourist drowned while snorkeling near Kokomo Beach.
Search and Rescue Effort
The Maritime Operations Center of the Coast Guard received an emergency call from the Curaçao Police Force (KPC) in the afternoon, requesting assistance in locating a missing person at sea.
According to initial reports, the victim had been snorkeling with his daughter, who safely returned to shore. However, her father never resurfaced, prompting the distress call.
Coast Guard Responds
Upon receiving the alert, the Coast Guard immediately deployed its helicopter to the area to initiate a search operation. After several hours of searching, the body of the missing man was located in the water.
Rescue teams retrieved the victim and made immediate attempts to resuscitate him, but unfortunately, all efforts were in vain. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Coast Guard expressed its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim, acknowledging the heartbreaking loss.
