WILLEMSTAD – An American tourist died Saturday following an incident while swimming at Playa Kalki in the western part of Curaçao.
According to a press release from the Curaçao Police, authorities received a report around 11:00 a.m. that a man who had been swimming in the sea was no longer responding.
Police officers from the Barber station and the tourism police unit, Politur, were dispatched to the location while an ambulance was sent to provide emergency assistance.
When emergency responders arrived, the tourist was found in the water. Other swimmers nearby had already noticed that the man was unresponsive. He was taken out of the sea and brought to shore.
Ambulance personnel examined the man and confirmed that he showed no signs of life. A police doctor later determined that the death was due to natural causes.
