WILLEMSTAD - A substantial amount has been reserved for overtime at the Curaçao Police Force (KPC) to pay the overtime of the officers, the Minister of Justice, Shalten Hato announced.
The minister has reserved 12.84 million guilders, approximately 3.24 million guilders more than last year.
Every year, the KPC spends more on overtime hours than budgeted for. To keep the budget in balance, there is a maximum number of hours that may be worked per officers. The money that the ministry saves as a result is put into the training of new police officers.
It was previously announced that overtime at KPC and the associated costs must be reduced. The reason for this is that the amount in the 2023 budget is 6 million guilders less than in 2022.
