All Surgeries Resume at CMC

Local, Health, | By Press release February 11, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) confirms that full surgical capacity has been restored. The sterilization equipment that was temporarily out of service is now fully operational. Patients whose surgeries were postponed will be contacted directly by the Planning Department to schedule new dates.

During the technical disruption, emergency and acute surgeries were prioritized continued without interruption. Elective surgeries were temporarily reduced, which briefly slowed progress in reducing the surgical waitlist. Since COVID-19, CMC successfully decreased the waitlist from around 2,600 patients to fewer than 600. Following the disruption, the waitlist stands at almost 700. With surgical capacity fully restored, CMC expects to actively reduce waiting list again in the coming weeks.

The hospital asks patients to await contact from the Planning Department rather than calling, allowing staff to coordinate appointments efficiently.

CMC thanks patients and the community for their patience and reaffirms its commitment to safe, continuous, and high-quality care.
