Airplane lost after departing Curaçao

Local | By Correspondent June 28, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Although it was reported that the airplane managed to take off from the platform here in Curaçao, there is no sign of an airplane that departed Curaçao bound for Bucaramanga, Colombia.

It concerns an airplane that was stationed on the platform at Hato, Curaçao, which departed on Sunday June 25, bound for Bucaramanga, Colombia but lost contact with the control tower in Lara. It is the Vice Minister of Civil Protection and Risk of the Lara state who reported on Sunday evening an incident with an airplane that departed Curaçao bound for Bucaramanga. They lost contact with the control tower located at the Maiquetia International Airport in Venezuela while it was flying in the airspace of the Lara state. The airplane in question is a Beechcraft Baron 58, with the registration number YS751T. It belongs to El Salvador.

The last contact that the airplane had was via radar at approximately 21.7 miles from Barquisimeto.

Currently, the search for the lost airplane is being monitored. Meanwhile, here in Curaçao, an investigation has also begun to uncover what happened. There has been recent attention given to pirate individuals who fly airplanes. Here in Curaçao, even in the month of May, the authorities managed to apprehend and imprison a man who had a fake pilot license to fly an airplane.

Based on compiled information, this is not the first time that airplanes have left Curaçao with unknown intentions. In the case of this airplane that departed Curaçao bound for Colombia, both CAP and CCAA were alerted because the passengers were attempting to smuggle a pirate pilot on board the airplane to enable their departure. This means that the incident was discovered in time. Despite the warning regarding suspicious movements to board the airplane, they still managed to take off and leave the island, and now the plane cannot be located. The case is under investigation.
