WILLEMSTAD - According to Rolf Sprecher on behalf of owner Lionstone, Sunscape and Dreams hotels have not forced their staff to sign a "no work, no pay" agreement, as was announced by Horecaf's union leader Kenneth Valpoort. This union represents the hotel industry.
“All vacation days are pre-financed. And the next step has not yet been defined. We are waiting for more clarity regarding the emergency fund,” said Sprecher.
People who were still in their probationary period at one of the hotels have been informed that - despite the hotels having the right to terminate the contract - it will not be terminated but will continue without a salary being paid. According to the employer, employees are guaranteed a place as soon as the hotels are operational again.
For people whose contract is about to expire, the hotels have indicated that the possibility is kept open to maintain the working relationship. The employees are paid a fifteen-day holiday allowance with the agreement that there will be unpaid leave afterwards and that the employee will be recruited immediately when there is business again.
It has been agreed for permanent employees that they will be paid their holidays and that when the holidays are over, they can turn to the HR department to find out what the next step is.
