Local | By Correspondent September 4, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Advent Hospital is set to gain the expertise of four new ophthalmologists. All four specialists have been recruited from Mexico and will soon be joining the medical team in Curaçao.

Advent Hospital submitted a request to allow the four specialists to work as doctors in Curaçao. Dr. Sirving Keli, Inspector for Public Health, conducted an evaluation of their credentials and other documents, ultimately providing a positive recommendation. On Saturday, Minister Silvania signed the necessary permits.

According to Dr. Keli, Inspector for Public Health, this initiative aims to alleviate the situation regarding ophthalmologists in Curaçao. Advent has successfully attracted four ophthalmologists who will establish themselves in Curaçao, resulting in an additional one or two ophthalmologists joining Advent Hospital starting from October. This move will help alleviate the ophthalmological issue.

Advent Hospital thoroughly examined the credentials of these doctors and met with them during a conference. They are certified professionals capable of performing the work required. Advent Hospital's Professional Standard Support also evaluated the necessary documents, which were found to be in order.

With the recruitment of these four eye specialists, it is expected that the long waiting lists for ophthalmic care can be reduced.
