Adjustment of tax regulations in the Kingdom is not going smoothly

Local | By Correspondent February 21, 2023

THE HAGUE – The Netherlands has not yet reached an agreement with Sint Maarten on the renewal of the mutual tax arrangement. The Dutch State Secretary for Finance Van Rij informed the House of Representatives today that the negotiations are in the final phase. For the time being, only an official agreement has been reached with Curaçao and Aruba.

“The Netherlands is committed to finalizing the tax arrangement with Curaçao (official agreement) and Sint Maarten (in negotiation plan) this year. The Netherlands and Aruba are reviewing the advice of the Advisory Council of Aruba on the previously reached official agreement," said Van Rij

The Netherlands wants to bring the existing tax arrangements with the CAS countries into line with the minimum standard of the so-called BEPS project to combat tax avoidance by large companies.

Last week, the European Union decided to add Curaçao and Aruba to the gray list of tax havens because they do not do enough to close the loopholes in their tax legislation.
