ADC, in collaboration with GMN, launches the campaign "Shop Consciously - for a Healthy Life"

Local | By Correspondent November 2, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - The Analytical Diagnostic Center (ADC) and the Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature (GMN), in partnership with four supermarkets, are launching the "Shop Consciously - for a Healthy Life" campaign in the lead-up to World Diabetes Day, which will take place on November 14.

With the "Shop Consciously - for a Healthy Life" campaign, ADC and GMN aim to raise awareness about diabetes and its prevention, provide more information about ADC's diabetes services, and encourage diabetics to make more informed food choices.

Throughout the month of November, ADC will park the Health Bus at one of the participating supermarkets, including Mangusa Hypermarket, Carrefour, VD Tweel, and Esperamos. Visitors can have their blood sugar checked for free, receive information about ADC's diabetes services, and participate in a special shopping tour designed for diabetics. Guided by a dietitian, participants in this shopping tour will receive information about nutrition and healthy choices for diabetics.

Statistics show that 1 in 10 people worldwide has diabetes (International Diabetes Federation 2023), with 90% of those having type 2 diabetes. In Curaçao, 8% of the population has diabetes (Curaçao Institute for Public Health 2017). Therefore, it is crucial to provide more information to raise awareness and promote prevention of this condition.

For more information on how to register for the diabetes shopping tour and find out where the Health Bus will be stationed, visit the ADC and GMN Facebook pages.
