Local | By Norberto V. Ribeiro March 14, 2025

WILLEMSTAD – Ensuring safe traffic is essential for the well-being of everyone. And it is the duty of the government to protect the lives of their citizens with a safe traffic.

That is why stricter traffic regulations and safety measures may help to reduce accidents, injuries, and fatalities

This according to former Minister of Justice Norberto Vieira Ribeiro who is nr. 15 on the list of the political party PAR for the coming election in Curaçao on March 21.

It is clear that there are more and more unnecessary traffic accidents and too many are fatal.

As a former minister of Justice, I am concerned of the way that our traffic is, he continued to say.

'Next to safe traffic practices, awareness of drivers we must accept that traffic accidents have a significant economic impact due to property damage, medical costs, and lost productivity. Safe traffic management helps mitigate these economic losses.

By taking on these tasks, the government ensures that transportation is safe, efficient, and beneficial for all citizens.

It is necessary to conduct a comprehensive traffic safety assessment by gathering and analyzing data on current traffic conditions, accident hotspots, causes of accidents, and the effectiveness of existing traffic laws and enforcement measures.

He finished saying that everyone can count on us to make this happen and we will start by evaluating existing measures.

And based on the assessment we will set clear priorities for action that will include implementing new traffic laws, enhancing enforcement, improving road infrastructure, and launching public awareness campaigns.

A lot has already been done in the past but now we must reevaluate and work with the knowledge we have based on real data', according to Norberto Vieira Ribeiro.
