ACCION 21 against Van Huffelen: We miss Knops' focus on results

Local | By Correspondent November 14, 2022

THE HAGUE, ORANJESTAD - The House of Representatives Committee on Kingdom Relations wants to know how State Secretary Van Huffelen will respond to the accusation of making government finances in Aruba dependent on those who caused the problems, the Wever-Croes cabinet.

Faction leader Miguel Mansur of the Aruban opposition party ACCION 21 reported, in response to the Kingdom Council of Ministers of October 21, by letter with “great dismay” that he had taken note of the decision not to give the Aruban government any financial instructions, even though the Financial Supervision Board (CFT) had advised to do so. According to Mansur, the State Secretary has thereby damaged the credibility of the CFT for a long time. The most painful observation made by ACCION 21 is perhaps that Van Huffelen lacks the "result-oriented" of her predecessor Raymond Knops. The Parliamentary Commission for Kingdom Relations has asked Van Huffelen for a copy of her answer to the Aruban Member of Parliament.

Last week, the entire opposition boycotted the Parliament's treatment of the budget. The deficit initially budgeted for 2023 has disappeared like snow in the sun, but there are doubts about the financial figures presented by the Aruban government.
