Abvo Union seeks dark hour allowance for ambulance personnel

Local | By Correspondent October 13, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - The Abvo Union contends that employees of the Ambulance Care Foundation (FKA) should receive payment for vacation days and a so-called 'dark hour allowance.'

George Hernandez, the President of Abvo, has sent a letter to Minister Javier van Silvania of Health, requesting whether ambulance personnel can be paid for vacation days and the aforementioned dark hour allowance. The allowance pertains to meal expenses incurred during work.

In his letter to the Minister of Health, Hernandez states that ambulance personnel are entitled to the dark hour allowance but have never received it. "It should be paid retroactively from October 2016," Hernandez said.

In a previous letter, Abvo's board requested that Silvania hire ambulance personnel as full-time employees. According to Hernandez, these employees have been at the disposal of the ambulance foundation for at least ten years.
