A gift that has stood for 34 years: Banco di Caribe renovates Pier at Playa Piskadó

Local | By Press release April 3, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The pier at Playa Piskadó has been an essential element for the fishermen in Westpunt for years. The pier, a gift from Banco di Caribe to the fishing community in 1990, has stood for 34 years. With the construction of the pier, fishermen have the opportunity to moor their boats and easily unload their catch. The pier at Playa Piskadó is the result of the vision of founder Mr. Eddy de Kort and is part of the history of Banco di Caribe. Over the past years, Banco di Caribe has made efforts to maintain the pier in good condition, so that the community can continue to enjoy it. This was also the case in recent weeks when Banco di Caribe, as part of the celebration of its 50th anniversary, renovated the pier at Playa Piskadó again. The last renovation was in 2014 when the opportunity was taken to raise the pier after the water level had risen.

Renovated and ready to remain a valuable addition

Visitors recently had the opportunity to observe the work taking place at the pier. The renovation began when parts of the pier were affected by the rough sea, making it impossible for fishermen to work as they were used to. The pier at Playa Piskadó has become essential for the community. Banco di Caribe's Director, Eduardo 'Dito' de Kort, explains: "We are proud that our contribution to Westpunt has made such a huge difference for the community. Playa Piskadó has known different generations of fishermen; parents who have raised their children with what the sea has provided them. We are incredibly happy to be able to donate the pier once again, and now fully renovated." Banco di Caribe is confident that the pier, now renewed, will remain a valuable addition for all who work at Playa Piskadó and will enhance the experience for all visitors.
