WILLEMSTAD - The Caribbean Coast Guard, Defense, the Colombian Navy and the US Coast Guard have intercepted 800 kilos of cocaine in a major operation. A Coast Guard patrol plane and a Colombian Navy helicopter tracked down two suspicious boats.
On 25 February, they jointly intercepted a large amount of contraband. The alarmed naval vessel Zr. Ms. Holland and the Colombian Navy then sent the US Navy to target the suspect boats with a helicopter stationed aboard the ship and its own high-speed motorboat.
Defense reports that one of the go-fast boats did not respond to the stop signal that was issued. Only after firing a few warning shots did the suspects surrender. The Colombian naval vessel ARC Victoria forced the other boat to stop.
According to Defense, the suspects and the drugs have been handed over to the US Coast Guard. Meanwhile, the Zr. Ms. Holland intercepted 10,500 kilos of drugs this year.
