WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Police announced today that a total of 725 vehicles have been seized during roadside checks conducted between December 19 of last year and April 24 of this year. The large-scale inspections are part of a broader effort to crack down on unlicensed and uninsured driving.
Of the seized vehicles, 216 remain unclaimed and are still being held at the police impound lot, known locally as the Kurá. The police reiterated that the intensified enforcement is a direct result of a stricter policy announced by the Minister of Justice late last year.
The Justice Minister had previously stated that it is unacceptable for so many individuals to be driving without the proper documentation, such as valid insurance, vehicle inspection certificates, or even a driver’s license. The current campaign is aimed at improving road safety and ensuring compliance with the law.
Authorities continue to urge the public to regularize their vehicle documents to avoid further enforcement actions.
