50 percent of car owners pay taxes

Local | By Correspondent March 29, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Only 50 percent of all car owners pay motor vehicle tax. This is according to the Minister of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning (VVRP), Charles Cooper during a recent televised program of the government's information service.

Cooper proposes to Finance Minister Javier Silvania to introduce new license plates, because this makes it easier to verify who has paid their vehicle tax. Silvania agrees with a tax increase, as the motor vehicle tax has been at the same level for fourteen years.

“Everything is getting more expensive, including the construction and repair of roads,” says Cooper. An increase in the motor vehicle tax could make it possible to catch up in road maintenance.
