WILLEMSTAD – Outgoing Minister of Justice, Mr. Shalten Hato, has expressed satisfaction with the recent traffic enforcement efforts carried out by the Curaçao Police Force (KPC). The administrative traffic controls, part of the ongoing “Kita Tur” campaign that began in December 2024, have revealed a concerning reality: approximately 46.4% of the vehicles inspected did not have proper documentation, such as a valid driver’s license, insurance, or proof of inspection.
The controls were intensified by KPC in recent days at strategic checkpoints across the island, with the primary goal of restoring order to road traffic and improving public safety. The figures show that despite the continued implementation of the Kita Tur initiative, many motorists are still taking to public roads with vehicles that are not in compliance—creating potentially dangerous situations for all road users.
Minister Hato emphasized that this trend reflects a worrying level of irresponsibility among certain drivers. “Driving a vehicle without valid documentation is not only a violation of the law, but also an act that endangers the safety of fellow citizens,” the Minister stated.
He also expressed appreciation for the dedication, professionalism, and decisive actions of the KPC officers involved, highlighting their role in promoting law enforcement and raising standards of compliance in the community. These recent traffic checks are not isolated events but part of a structural plan aimed at reinforcing road safety and encouraging adherence to traffic laws.
The Ministry of Justice confirmed that the checks will continue in a planned and intensified manner. The public is urged to cooperate and take their responsibilities in traffic seriously, with the conviction that safety is not just a right, but also a duty shared by everyone.
