THE HAGUE - 100 UN member states have made a total of 255 recommendations on the national human rights situation in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. This is evident from the draft report of a session of the UN Human Rights Council on 15 November in Geneva, where ministers from all four countries gave a presentation and answered questions. The draft report was sent to the Dutch House of Representatives today by Minister Bruins Slot of the Interior and Kingdom Relations.
The recommendations cover a wide range of topics, including the ratification of international human rights instruments, discrimination and racism, hate speech, media freedom and the safety of journalists, human trafficking, the climate, the pay gap, violence against women, children's rights, rights of LGBTIQ+ people, and rights of migrants and asylum seekers.
In March 2023, the report will be officially submitted to the UN Human Rights Council for approval. The Kingdom of the Netherlands will then have to indicate for each recommendation whether it will adopt it or merely accept it for information.
