24 new medicines approved in Curaçao

Local | By Correspondent November 20, 2023

WILLEMSTAD – The government of Curaçao has announced the approval of 24 new medicines in the local market. Additionally, the maximum prices of ten drugs will be adjusted as of December 15.

The most recent adjustment in drug prices occurred on October 1. The new maximum prices have been established in a ministerial regulation signed on November 7.

This regulation follows requests from pharmaceutical importers, after which the Ministry of Economic Development (MEO) calculates the new prices, including those for the newly registered medicines.

Furthermore, the Pisas cabinet recently called on doctors and pharmacists to apply for the Medicines Registration Committee, where four seats are still vacant.

This call was issued by the Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature and the Inspection of Public Health. Both the Curaçao Association of Medical Specialists and the Curaçao General Practitioners Association have been approached in writing.

The Committee plays a crucial role in drug supply in Curaçao. Operating under the National Ordinance on Drug Supply, this committee ensures that incoming medicines meet quality standards before registering them. These steps are essential to guarantee the quality and safety of medicines for the population of Curaçao.
