15-year-old Giomar Raphael Hellemun becomes seventh traffic fatality of the year

WILLEMSTAD - Tragedy struck yesterday evening as 15-year-old Giomar Raphael Hellemun became the seventh victim of a fatal traffic accident this year, according to the police. The young teenager was struck by a car while riding his bicycle on Kaya Hosé "Papa" Liberia. 

 

The initial findings of the police investigation reveal that the driver involved was heading towards Porta Blanku, while Giomar was cycling in the same direction ahead of him. Unfortunately, a collision occurred, resulting in this devastating accident. 

 

Following the incident, the police apprehended the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was subsequently brought before the deputy prosecutor for questioning, but later in the evening, he was allowed to return home. Tests conducted on the driver indicated that he remained within the legal alcohol limit. 

 

This tragic event highlights the ongoing concerns regarding road safety on our island. The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident, and authorities are reminding the public of the importance of responsible driving to prevent such devastating incidents.
