WILLEMSTAD - The Government of Curaçao is pleased to announce that the '11th European Development Fund (EDF) WORKS contracts' have been officially approved by the European Union Delegation (EUD). This achievement marks an important step in continuing the collaboration between Curaçao and the European Union in the development of essential infrastructure projects on the island.
Projects that are part of this program include:
Otrobanda:
In Breedestraat Otrobanda, Roodeweg, and the neighborhood near the mosque, the sewage system will be upgraded. Currently, there is a mixed system in place, meaning that wastewater and rainwater flow together. The new system will separate the pipes, so wastewater will go to the purification system, while rainwater will be directed to the sea.
Scheidelaar Gas Station Area:
This project also involves improvements around the Scheidelaar gas station. The area will be equipped with new paving, benches, and playground equipment.
Tera Korá:
A new, ultra-modern water purification system will be installed. The existing system was severely damaged by a fire several years ago.
Sapaté:
In the neighborhood near “Nos Welita,” public lighting will be improved, and the asphalt layer will be redone. During the 10th EDF project, a community center was constructed. In this 11th EDF project, the neighborhood will be finalized by laying the asphalt and installing public lighting.
Fortuna Ariba:
The Curaçao Housing Foundation (FKP) will build homes for the community, and the Ministry of Traffic, Transport, and Urban Planning (VVRP) will develop the infrastructure, which includes sewage systems, paving, and asphalt roads.
The announcement has been published in various local newspapers and in the EU’s ‘Official Journal’ (TED), as well as on the ‘Funding & Tenders Portal’ via the following link: https://ec.europa.eu/info/funding-tenders/opportunities/portal/screen/home. The publication will include the ‘Contract Notice’ and ‘Additional Information to the Contract Notice,’ ensuring the documentation is complete.
The final deadline for submitting bids for this project is set for January 31, 2025.
This development is the result of a joint effort by all parties involved and reflects the commitment and hard work invested in the project. The approval of the contract dossier provides a significant boost for Curaçao and opens the door to the realization of various infrastructure projects that will have a positive impact on the island.
Although there is still more work to be done, reaching this milestone is a great achievement. Minister Charles Cooper of the Ministry of Traffic, Transport, and Urban Planning looks forward to continuing the collaboration with local and international partners to successfully complete this project.
