11-Year-Old Student Passes Away During National Exam at Curaçao School

WILLEMSTAD – An 11-year-old student from a primary school in the Suffisant district passed away yesterday morning at the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) after suddenly falling ill during an exam. The student, who was in Group 8 (final year of primary school), became unwell while taking the EFO exam and was urgently transported to the hospital by ambulance. Despite rapid medical intervention, doctors were unable to save the child.

According to sources within the medical team, the student had been experiencing mild health complaints in recent days, including loss of appetite and headaches. However, the situation appeared to have improved, and the child attended school as usual this morning. The student's condition deteriorated suddenly during the exam.

Exam Halted, Parents Informed

The school administration immediately suspended the EFO exam following the incident. Parents and guardians of the other students were informed via a mobile app notification and were asked to pick up their children due to the emergency situation on campus.

The unexpected tragedy has deeply affected the school community and has prompted discussions about student health and stress during the high-pressure exam period. Authorities have yet to release the child’s identity or further details pending communication with the family.
