WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) will welcome a nephrologist and a cardiologist starting September 1. Additionally, other specialists, including an anesthesiologist, three neurologists, two pulmonologists, and a plastic surgeon, have recently joined the hospital.
Specialist Departures Linked to Salary Regulations
According to Public Health Inspector Sirving Keli, the departure of medical specialists is partly linked to the National Ordinance on Top Income Standards (LNT). Since June 2023, several doctors have left the CMC, including five hospital pharmacists and various specialists, while others have reduced their working hours. However, Keli emphasizes that the LNT is not the sole reason for the departures.
Concerns About Healthcare Continuity
Although CMC and other hospitals, such as Advent and the Curaçao International Clinic (CIC), continue to recruit new doctors, concerns remain about the continuity of healthcare services. The Public Health Inspectorate states that it will continue to monitor the situation closely.
