Visit Kaya Kaya Art Week for an Unforgettable Experience of Art, Culture, and History

WILLEMSTAD – From Monday, May 26 to Saturday, May 31, Fundashon Kaya Kaya is organizing another edition of Kaya Kaya Art Week. Curaçao is rich in art and history, and Art Week offers an opportunity for both well-known and emerging artists in the art world to showcase their talent and creativity. This week of art is a unique moment for visitors to enjoy a vibrant celebration of diverse creativity in the heart of Otrobanda. During Art Week, there will also be two Artwalkastry walks per day, and on Saturday, May 31, the Amor Market for Otrobanda will take place.

Art Week

During Art Week, more than 42 local and international artists will exhibit their artwork in 20 Art Houses. These Art Houses are spread across Sebastopolstraat, Breedestraat, Frederikstraat, Belvederestraat, St. Thomas College, and Kura Hulanda. Visitors can experience a wide range of art forms including visual art, photography, digital art, literature, poetry, workshops, and much more. The organizers expect so much art to see that visitors will need more than one day to fully enjoy the immense artistic creativity that Art Week offers.

Open Mic

In addition to the art exhibitions and sales, on Monday, May 29, from 7 PM to 10 PM, there will be an ‘Open Mic’ event at the Jopi Hart Amphitheater. This is a chance for both adults and children to perform poetry, tell jokes, or short stories.

Art Workshops

Throughout the entire week, participants can register to join various workshops featuring different types of art. These workshops will take place at St. Thomas College on Hoogstraat and at La Armada on Frederikstraat. For more information on workshop schedules, dates, times, and locations, visit the social media pages of the Kaya Kaya Festival.

Murals

During the Artwalkastry walks, visitors can also see murals being created by artists Maaike Bijlsma, Bella Wonderlinch, and Jeremy D Striker. Kaya Kaya expresses gratitude to these three artists for voluntarily painting murals that bring more color and life to the streets of Otrobanda.

Artwalkastry

The Artwalkastry walks usually take place every Thursday afternoon. However, during Art Week there will be two walks daily, at 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM. Each walk lasts about 1.5 hours. Registration can be done via www.kayakaya.org/artwalkastry, email at tour@kayakaya.org, or through Kaya Kaya Artwalkastry social media. Payment can be made online or at the Kaya Kaya office on Breedestraat near the viaduct. Residents of Curaçao pay XCD 35 and tourists pay USD 35, which includes water, local refreshments, and a shot at Neto Bar. Both walks start at the Kaya Kaya office.

Amor Market for Otrobanda

On Saturday, May 31, from 4 PM to 10 PM, the fifth Amor Market for Otrobanda will take place, featuring food, drinks, art, and a variety of products. There will also be a children’s area and live music. The market will be held in the viaduct area and streets of the neighborhood. During Art Week, from Thursday, May 28 to Friday, May 30, from 6 PM to 10 PM, visitors can also enjoy what various enthusiastic vendors have to offer.

Fundashon Kaya Kaya thanks all partners who collaborated to make Art Week possible. Special thanks go to main sponsors such as Aqualectra for lighting the route and continuous support in various forms, AVF for providing paint used for Art Week murals and projects, MCB Curaçao, Fonds voor Cultuurparticipatie, Cultuurfonds Caribischgebied, Monumentenzorg, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sport (OWCS), and Nu Capital.
