WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao government has announced that Fundashon J.A.G. (Juni Aniceta i su Grupo) will be responsible for organizing the Seú 2026 events. The announcement was made during a press conference held on Thursday, February 20, 2026.
During the press briefing, Lizette Sambo-Velder, speaking on behalf of the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, called on the media and the public to support the organization throughout the Seú season. She emphasized this year’s theme, “Si lantera kai, kunuku lo tap’é”, which translates to: “If you don’t know your history, go to your roots to find it” a reference to the importance of knowing and preserving one’s cultural roots.
Within this framework, strong emphasis will be placed on cultural education, both in schools and in neighborhoods across the island. The aim is to strengthen awareness and appreciation of Curaçao’s traditional heritage among younger generations and the wider community.
The president of Fundashon J.A.G. presented the official calendar for Seú 2026, while coordinators of the various events provided additional details on their respective activities.
The planned Seú 2026 activities are as follows:
· March 8, 2026: Mara Lensu competition and official installation of participants for the Cultural Election 2026
· March 10, 2026: Opening of Kunuku Shon Mi and closure of registration for É Kantadó Mayó
· March 14, 2026: Cultural Election 2026
· March 17, 18, 19 and 21, 2026: É Kantadó Mayó 2026
· March 22, 2026: Election of Wela Seú 2026
· March 28, 2026: Bos di Kunuku 2026
· April 6, 2026: Seú March 2026
· April 10, 2026: Seú March for senior citizens in Habaai
· April 12, 2026: Seú Banda Bou March 2026
· April 26, 2026: Closing of the Seú 2026 season
As part of the Cultural Election 2026, the next Reina Seú Kòrsou 2026 and Curaçao’s first Rei Kosecha Kòrsou 2026 will be selected. Participation criteria include being at least 17 years old, representing a Seú group, and demonstrating a genuine love for Curaçao’s culture.
Registration for the Cultural Election opened and will close on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at 7:00 p.m.
With the official start of preparations, the Seú 2026 season is set to once again highlight Curaçao’s rich agricultural traditions, music, dance, and cultural identity.
