EU Opens Funding Opportunity for Nature and Biodiversity Projects in Curaçao and Other Caribbean Islands

Local, Caribbean, | By Correspondent June 15, 2026

BRUSSELS – Organizations in Curaçao and other Caribbean islands now have an opportunity to secure European Union funding for projects aimed at protecting biodiversity and promoting the sustainable management of natural resources.

The European Union Delegation to Barbados, the Eastern Caribbean States, and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States has launched a new call for proposals focused on strengthening the sustainable management of natural capital across the Caribbean Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs).

Eligible applicants include organizations from Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Maarten, and Saint-Barthélemy.

According to the European Union, the program is designed to support initiatives that contribute to the protection of ecosystems, conservation of biodiversity, and the sustainable use of natural resources. The funding is intended to help Caribbean islands address environmental challenges while promoting long-term resilience and sustainable development.

The initiative is financed through the European Union budget and forms part of broader efforts to support environmental stewardship in the Caribbean region.

Organizations interested in applying have until August 28, 2026, to submit project proposals.

To assist potential applicants, the European Union will host an online information session on June 23, where participants will receive detailed guidance on the objectives of the program, eligibility requirements, and application procedures.

The funding opportunity comes at a time when Caribbean islands are increasingly focused on environmental protection, climate resilience, and the preservation of fragile ecosystems that play a critical role in tourism, fisheries, and overall economic sustainability.

The full application guidelines and eligibility criteria are available through the European Union's grant portals and the EU Delegation in Barbados.

For Curaçao, the program could provide additional resources for environmental organizations, conservation groups, research institutions, and other stakeholders working to protect the island's natural heritage and biodiversity.
