Same-sex marriage not yet legalized in Aruba

ORANJESTAD - The parliament of Aruba has failed to reach an agreement on the controversial bill to open marriage to same-sex couples.

After an emotional meeting on Wednesday, ten parliamentarians voted in favor and ten against. The meeting drew both supporters and opponents, but the vote remained undecided because one member abstained from voting.

Shailiny Tromp-Lee stated on Facebook that the issue is complex and that she understands both sides, which is why she decided not to vote.

The decision has been postponed, and a new date has not yet been set.
