Wingo celebrates 3 years of operations and celebrates with the arrival of its first Boeing 737-800 in Curaçao

The best low-cost airline in Latin America and the third worldwide, according to the KAYAK Awards, celebrates its third year of operations in style with the incorporation of its new Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

With more than 2.8 million passengers transported and a network that already reaches 21 routes in 10 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, including flights to Bogotá from Curaçao, Wingo continues to consolidate itself as the lowest cost airline with the largest projection in the region.

BOGOTA, WILLEMSTAD - Three years ago, a new chapter in Latin American aviation was born; one full of good vibes, punctuality and really low prices ... that's why today, at Wingo, we celebrate being the protagonists of this story.

Since our beginning of operations and to date, we have transported more than 2.8 million passengers, which in addition to low prices, have enjoyed a professional and punctual service. In these three years, we have maintained an indicator of compliance with our itineraries of 99.9%, which has made us one of the most punctual low-cost airlines in the world.

“Wingo was born as the answer to all those travelers who not only looked for low rates but also a complied and respectful service; and, precisely, that unique formula of punctuality, low prices and good vibes is what has made us, in just three years, a profitable airline with great projection ”said Carolina Cortizo, Director General of Wingo“ Today, in the framework from this celebration, we began the transition of the Wingo fleet and received our first Boeing 737-800 aircraft, an aircraft that will allow us to increase our offer of seats by 31% and reduce our operating costs, which will result in more low fares for our passengers."

Another sample of Wingo's positive performance during its third year is reflected in the 7% capacity increase compared to last year, maintaining an average occupancy factor of 87% on all routes.

“We are proud as the Tourist Office of Curaçao, to be pioneers in Wingo's work plans, and we welcome with great satisfaction the fact that such an aircraft joins the flights that the airline offers to connect Colombian travelers with our island. This undoubtedly contributes to the strengthening of Curaçao in the minds of Colombian tourists who increasingly visit us, finding in it, a wide and varied offer of tourism, entertainment, rest and fun,” said André Rojer, Regional Manager for America of South.

Additionally, during 2019, we transported 6% more passengers than the previous year, with the same aircraft fleet; and we continue the expansion of our route network with the incorporation of four new international destinations from Bogotá to Curaçao, Santo Domingo, Guayaquil, San José de Costa Rica; and a new route between Panama and Havana

“It is an honor to be one of the first destinations to receive the new Wingo team with more capacity and reiterating the importance of the Colombian market for Curacao. With just months of having launched the flights the impact on the numbers of passengers we received through Wingo has been very positive and with very good expectations for the future. Wingo is a very important partner for us and that perfectly complements our route network,” said Peggy Croes - Director of Marketing, Air Service and Development of the Hato de Curaçao International Airport.

That is why, today we materialize these great results with the arrival of our first Boeing 737-800 aircraft. This transition will end in January, when we will complete the change of all our planes.

Wingo keeps flying high and demonstrating that low quality cost is possible!
