WILLEMSTAD - The University of Curaçao (UoC) is conducting a large-scale survey on Carnival in Curaçao. This quantitative research aims to understand the impact and experience of the annual traditional Carnival festival on the island and to capture the wishes and thoughts of those involved in the festivities.
The results of this study are expected to assist the government and relevant parties in developing a sustainable management plan for Curaçao's Carnival. According to the university, the research adheres to scientific standards.

The research proposal questions whether Carnival is primarily a popular celebration focused on enjoyment for the local population or if it can become an economic export product for Curaçao, attracting tourists and generating sufficient revenue to cover the festival's costs.
Based on these considerations, UoC has formulated the main research question: "What actions can be taken to initiate the sustainable development of Curaçao's Carnival?"
The research team includes Dino Daal, Guido Rojer, Ethelworth Merien, and Leander Kuijvenhoven, under the coordination of Liesbeth Echteld and Francis de Lanoy. The survey will be conducted from August 8 to August 30.
